Mahatma Gandhi's Quotes Redefined

Happy Gandhi Jayanti to Everyone!

Not only Indians but the whole world has been inspired by Mohandas Karamchand Gandhiji’s principles and ideologies.
Standing proof to this statement is that United Nations declared this day as “International Day of Non-Violence” on 2007.

Happy International day of Non-Violence too.

Known to Indians as “Mahatma” or “Bapu” Gandhiji played a pivotal role in India’s Freedom Struggle.
Time and again there are various arguments made that his silent protests are not what brought us Independence. They say it was not peace but a revolt which eliminated British rule for India. Maybe yes, the last leap required many sacrifices but throughout the struggle Bapu played a important role on bringing justice to Indians and kept the non-violent yet consistent fight alive.
India and the world today have gone through tremendous change, not only in terms of technology and politics, but also in terms of Human nature.
So is Bapu’s Non-Violence still applicable, is it plausible to get things right with a silent protest?
I would say “Times change, Universal Truths don’t.”

Great thoughts need to be understood and not just read. Great philosophers, writers and leaders have left behind lots of quotes. Those “Words of Wisdom” may date back centuries but are still applicable.

Gandhiji has also left us with lots of Quotes to think on.
I would like to add my own thoughts to it, and try to Redefine it for Today’s World.
Some Redefined for Today, Some Trendified all my favorite Mahatma Gandhi Quotes.

“The weak can never forgive, forgiveness is the attribute of the Strong”

I add:
“Forgive not to belittle others, but to pacify your anger and be at peace”
I Justify:
The idea of forgiveness is taken as meherbani (favor) on others.

Thoughts & Character
“A man is but the product of his thoughts, what he thinks, he becomes”

I add:
“Thoughts, which are generated from what we see, read and the environment we live in”
I Justify:
Thoughts cannot be completely trained, but can be guided. Media today plays a major role on what we think, so one has to be careful.

“Be the Change you want to see in the world”

I add:
“Don’t just shout slogans, make the slogans your resolutions too.
Before going on a Candle march, lit a light within you.”
I Justify:
Today everyone is willing to protest about other’s wrong doings, but no one takes time to evaluate themselves.

Faith in Humanity
“You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean is dirty, the ocean does not become dirty”

I add:
If some Humans have lost their integrity, doesn’t mean every generation up ahead are immoral. Children born even today don’t bear evil genes of their parents, instead are true at heart and innocent.
I justify:
It’s becoming difficult to have belief when we see increasing immorality in fellow humans.

“An Unjust law is itself a species of violence. Arrest for its breach is more so.”

I add:
No System is perfect, Perfection needs work and not just mockery.
I justify:
India still has a long way to go on rectifying loopholes in Indian Judiciary system. Doesn’t mean we have to go havoc on the government every time someone exploits one of the loopholes, instead we must work on rectifying and making amendments

Seven Sins
“Politics without Principles
Wealth without Work
Pleasure without Conscience
Knowledge without Character
Commerce without Morality
Science without Humanity
Worship without Sacrifice”

I add:
“Social Service without Selflessness
Commitment without Love”
Don’t think needs Justification.

“Happiness is when what you think, what you say and what you do are in Harmony”

I add:
“Happiness is when what you think, what you say and what you do are in SYNC”
I justify:
People understand “Sync” better than “Harmony” in the digitalized world today.

“Live and Let Live”

I add:
I justify:
In the struggles of surviving, we may have forgot to LIVE. You have heard this before, but take time for yourself. Live.

Whatever controversies and arguments you would raise, all I would say is these words cannot be of a person who was wrong. Each one is a blend of Pure Wisdom and nothing but Universal truths.

Anyone of you wants to add to the list or has something to say, you are welcome to comment below.
